The Committee of Concerned Journalists (CCJ) has redesigned its Web site. Looks pretty snazzy:

While it certainly has an appealing color palette and is easy on the eyes and probably merits the term “snazzy”, I don’t see it as well designed. There is an explosion of content and a distinct lack of direction where the page in general has a free-for-all idea with different sections battling at each other for your attention as opposed to something with a more straightforward, less “Wow there’s way too much to look at” approach. It’s an example of too much when much less would have sufficed. The New York Times website is an example of a website that deals with even more content but in a more hierarchial and focused method. The CCJ website does look “nice” though. Do you by any chance have a screenshot of before the redesign?

I don’t have a retro screenshot though remember it looking much more antiquated.

CCJ’s research tools are much easier to use now. That’s what bothered me in its old design.
